On average, GSROC spends about $1,200 per dog before it is adopted out. Adoption fees are $375 for over 1 year or for mixed GSD and $475 for under 1 year. Dogs come spayed or neutered, current vaccinations, microchipped, de-flead, de-wormed and some have basic obedience training depending on our budget and volunteer time.
The German Shepherd dog is often said to be the most versatile dog breed that is sensitive, confident, task oriented, highly adaptable and natural protectors. Bred for herding sheep, the companion GSD is often seen working in law enforcement, search and rescue, and companion dogs. Some have even been used to detect cancer and black mold. What makes the GSD a great dog can quickly become problematic if inexperienced owners do not keep their dog well exercised, as well as mentality and physically stimulated. GSDs do not make good pets for first time dog owners and a firm, but loving owner is needed to handle the GSD.

Reasons why our volunteers chose to volunteer with GSROC:
- 1st not aware of pet over-population in America and GSROC educate volunteers so they can educate their family and friends
- there are not enough people actively volunteering to help dogs find their forever homes
- dogs are desperate and thousands are killed every day
- believe in GSROC's mission, to rehabilitate, rescue and re-home GSDs
We need people to come out and transport dogs to/from weekly adoption events. The more dogs that can come out for face time with the public the better (to be seen, to get out and stretch their legs/get some fresh air because most are in boarding facilities all week) and learn to be social around other dogs, people and different situations.
We need volunteers to help ask companies for donations for raffle's, silent auctions, any sort of donations. GSROC does not receive government grants and all operating expenses are paid for by generous donations from the public, and events such as bake sales and garage sales.
We need people to learn about the overpopulation problem in America and to help promote spay and neuter. Help promote adoptions from shelters and rescue groups. Join GSROC Facebook page, place our ad's or info in their church eblasts, in their local coffee shops, radio plugs and any/all advertising. Help spread the word!
