The first days of the New Year have witnessed a tragic accident with a bitter-sweet ending. On New Year’s Eve, Dave and Kerry Gaillard went skiing near Cooke City, Montana. Unfortunately, an avalanche struck while the couple was still on the mountain, burying Dave Gaillard and the family dog, a Welsh corgi named Ole. Thankfully, Kerry was spared and was able to return to nearby Cooke City for help. Sadly, Dave Gaillard did not survive the accident. However, in true holiday miracle fashion, Ole returned to the motel where the Gaillards had been staying, four days after having been swept up in the avalanche! The incredible canine managed to dig himself out of the snow and return to where he last knew the Gaillards to have been. Thankfully, Ole was alive, and Kerry was allowed this comfort during her time of grieving for her husband.
The search and rescue team were positive that Ole had been buried, but he showed up to the motel on Wednesday exhausted and hungry. The owner of the motel reported that when he first saw Ole, he was just sitting in front of the door of the room where the Gaillards had been staying. Thankfully, the Gaillards’ daughter will not have to finish the memorial she had started making for Ole the very day he showed up back at the motel.

We are very happy that Ole survived this tragic accident, and our thoughts and good wishes are with the Gaillard family.
